Dear Arrival,
Upon the recommendation of a trusted friend, I watched you from start to finish. You are so beautiful. How is it possible for a film about alien life to be so...so...human? I know a lot of it comes from a lovely performance from Amy Adams as Louise Banks. She manages to give off a vulnerable vibe while maintaining an air of confidence. From the beginning,I knew you were something special. The use of narration is absolutely perfect, as is the use of voice overs. Those two things are hard to lay down on the film table, but your director, Denis Villeneuve seems to have known what he wanted all along. Don't even get me started on the cinematography done by Bradford Young. The way the cameras maneuver around buildings and scenes from all kinds of angles...it's fantastic. The melancholy and blue hues found throughout you are consistent and beautiful, especially when matched with this heart-wrenching score. I know a lot of people say you are confusing; that doesn't change what you really are.
It's all in what Ians character replies to Louise with when she asks,"If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things?"
He says,"Maybe I'd say what I feel more often." He's right, and I'm not going to let the moment pass by without telling you how I feel about you, Arrival.
You look beautiful. You sound beautiful. You end beautiful. Thank you, again, for existing. I love you.
Signed,
Your Secret Admirer
